CCS Events!
Every year, CCS has tons of amazing events - social, academic, and community service related.

Community Service
CCS has a strong tradition in community service. We usually have 4 volunteer sites per year. Some of our current sites
include Family Focus, an afterschool program for kids from low-income families; the South East Asia Center; Jumpstart Reads,
a mentorship program for young kids; and Campus Kitchens, an organization that brings food to families and homeless shelters.
Cultural Events
CCS loves going on cultural outings. One tradition is going to Dim Sum in Argyle, which is a Vietnamese neighborhood
in Chicago. One of our fellows, Sonbinh Nguyen, orders food for us and then gives us a tour of the neighborhood. From
going to an Ethiopian restaurant to exploring Pilsen, the Mexican neighborhood in Chicago, we always try to get into the
community and learn about the ethnic and cultural neighborhoods.
Academic Events
We have an amazing group of faculty fellows and other associated professors. Every quarter we have a lot
of faculty firesides and student firesides, where presenters pick a topic to discuss with CCSers. We also have tutorials,
which are classes just for CCS residents. Past topics have included "The Atomic Society," "Social Issues as
Represented in Film," and "What is Community?".
Social Events
We also have wayyy too much fun just hanging out or doing other social events. Some of them include camping, Secret Satan
(dressing up like another CCSer for Halloween), formals, bowling, and Finals Food - a dinner break from studying for finals.
Master's Banquet
Each winter CCS hosts the Master's Banquet, which is
a formal themed dinner for our residents, fellows, and Master staff. Past themes have included a Masquerade Ball, The Godfather,
The 1920s, and the color Red. We have a talent show where CCSers perform a variety of talents.
Quiz Bowl
Every year CCS has a strong representation at RCB Quiz Bowl! We spend a Saturday competing against other RC teams and
usually win the spirit award!
Field Day
Field Day is an annual competition between Residential Colleges. There are usually relay races, sports events,
pie eating contests, and water balloon tosses. We are currently the reigning Field Day CHAMPS!!
